The Villa
Number 12 - boutique apartments on Mysliwiecka Street is situated at the very heart of Warsaw, in the elegant Embassy district. The listed villa was built in 1924 by architect Professor Rudolf Swierczynski (1883-1943). The house was both his residence and the place where he drew plans for his most important projects, these to include the HQ of the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, for which he was awarded the Grand Prix in Paris in 1938.
The villa on Mysliwiecka Street is still owned by descendants of the Swierczynski family. Almost destroyed during World War II, it was carefully restored in 1947. More recently in 2007, the house was completely renovated and lovingly converted to become a boutique style hotel. Set on a hill in a beautiful, leafy Warsaw location, the house is a splendid example of the architect's vision to blend traditional architecture with Neo-Gothic - the ceiling arches in the hall for example, through to the more contemporary style elsewhere in the house, such as the charming bijou balcony, which is not at all typical of Polish architecture during this period. This reflects the architect's influence by the Italian visionaries of the time and Le Corbusier.
The garden
A keen botanist, Rudolf Swierczynski created a wonderful botanical paradise in the gardens to the rear of the house. To this day, there remain fine examples of rare trees and plants, which the architect imported from South America. This peaceful enclave, in the very centre of the city, takes it's visitors back in time, which has stood still here since the 1920's.
